Something To Take On The Trip

Just before New Year, Vincent Trigili posted a call on MobileRead for donations to a charity anthology being put together in support of the Wallace and Gromit's Grand Appeal, A Children's Hospital Charity. I saw the post in early January, at about the time my calendar was clearing and I was starting to think seriously about doing some writing, so it piqued my interest. I was still busy then, but when I finally got some time in February I remembered Vincent's post.

A call to arms and a good cause! How could I resist?

Contributions were requested that were flash fiction length, around 1,000 words or less. I penned a short tale called "Recall", which edited down to just over 400 words. I sent it off to the editor, Stella Wilkinson, who accepted it for the book.

I've had a couple of gaming articles published in the past, but this will be my first piece of fiction appearing in public.

In case Graham Brand's first 400 words aren't enough of a draw for you, the book also contains stories by David Gerrold and Kevin J. Anderson.

Gerrold wrote the classic "The Trouble with Tribbles" episode of Star Trek, and won both the Hugo and the Nebula awards for his novellette "The Martian Child".

Anderson is well known for his sweeping space operas - I'm three massive volumes into his highly entertaining "Saga of Seven Suns" - and for his novels for the Star Wars, Star Trek and Dune settings.

The anthology's packed with stories, it's for charity, and everyone should buy it!

You can get Something To Take On The Trip for your Kindle or as a paperback from Amazon or in ePub format from Smashwords.

It's the third in a series of these charity anthologies, with the earlier two also available:

Something To Read On The Ride - from Amazon and Smashwords
